WHAT IS TELETHERAPY?
Teletherapy is psychological therapy that is conducted either via the phone or via a video conferencing platform, such as FaceTime, Skype or Zoom. Research has demonstrated that teletherapy is an effective form of psychological treatment. When you make your first appointment, the most appropriate type of teletherapy will be discussed and selected based on your needs. Like face-to-face therapy, clients can claim a rebate from Medicare for up to 20 sessions.
HOW TO ACCESS THE MEDICARE REBATE
Under the Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, individuals can claim a rebate from Medicare for up to 20 treatment sessions per calendar year from a registered psychologist. A referral from your GP is needed to receive the medicare rebate but not to make an appointment. For those that are experiencing financial hardship, bulk billing options are available.
